With the recent sale of the John McAfee Inmates of Defi NFT for a chadtastic 20eth, we wanted to give our community a brief update on where we are headed in this new NFT frontier.
Thus far, we’ve been having fun with (and sometimes at the expense of) some of the crypto personalities that have been dominating the space. Chads, virgins, inmates, and (very soon) stacies all made their way into our NFT series. While this is all fine and good, we believe the “baseball card collectible” format is just barely scratching the surface of what this technology can do.
With that in mind, we have been focusing on higher quality NFTs made by established artists with sound design by professional composers. Our creative director is plugged into the art trade world and has been busy making deals with artists and galleries around the globe to bring cutting edge design to the chads.limited line up. We want our NFT collection to appeal to the art world as well as the crypto space. Expect limited mints from world renown artists and a steady stream of fresh NFTs on chads.limited.
To kick things off, we felt it appropriate to work with some artists who haven’t yet made their debuts in the NFT world. First up is Mr. Penfold:
Tim Gresham is UK born and raised artist Mr. Penfold. His work represents a 1980’s inspired aesthetic that takes elements from the early days of computer graphics, airbrush graffiti, b-boy culture, comics, and skateboarding. Son of a 40 year veteran screen printer, Penfold was exposed to a wealth of creative influence and knowledge from an early age that has continued to push his craft and technique. Tim’s latest works show growth and confidence in his stylistic approach, tapping into his love for abstract and pop artists like Eduardo Paolozzi and Patrick Claufield. With a dead set focus on pushing the abstraction of his earliest illustrative forms, Penfold has taken a scalpel to his signature elements, allowing himself to explore how they interact compositionally in space with varying scale and palette.
“It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I actually had the guts to start pushing the abstract work! I had a slow transition from the characters to where my work is now. At first, I started tearing the characters apart and focusing on the elements — eyes, nose, mouth. With these parts, I began to create a library of shapes that I would use to make abstract paintings.” -Mr. Penfold
